Transforming Corrections relies heavily on the emerging discipline of Implementation Science to inform its work of assisting agencies in achieving improved outcomes through the effective delivery of evidence-based practices (EBPs). By guiding agencies in the scale-up of innovative practices through the use of Implementation Science, we move away from the notion that training alone is sufficient to bring about enhanced skills of practitioners, their delivery of an EBP with fidelity, and improved outcomes for the individuals they serve.
Effective implementation is supported by three important factors that, understood to be multiplicative, drive improved outcomes.
The work of Transforming Corrections is informed by the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) at the University of North Carolina as well as the work of the Oregon Social Learning Center. Through the understanding of the Competency, Organizational, and Leadership Drivers and Improvement Cycles recommended by NIRN and the Stages of Implementation Completion (SIC) developed by the Oregon Social Learning Center, Transforming Corrections uses a comprehensive approach to guide and support agencies in the successful implementation of EBPs.
Transforming Corrections work in this area has been carried out with community corrections agencies in Oregon, Colorado, and Minnesota.
